Community Service No Comments »

“Toys for Joys” is a non-profit event / organization dedicated to providing toys and gifts for underprivileged children during the holiday season. This annual event, through donations from businesses, organizations and individuals, will collect toys and gifts with 100% of the donations given to local charities for distribution at their holiday events. It is being hosted at the Artists for Humanity Building in South Boston on Sunday December 13, 2009 and will benefit 6 local charities. Please visit the website for all the details.

We are a volunteer group made up mostly of members of the GLBT community who care about children and their basic desire to have something to make them smile for the holidays. We are grateful to the sponsors whom have helped make this event happen as well as to the companies whom helped out with donation of time or product to make the event successful. Finally, we are thankful to our supporters whom have given us the positive energy to move forward with this event and help make a child/teen smile during what is often a difficult time of year for so many.

We know the economy is bad and that times are tough. That means times are even tougher for these underprivileged children we are trying to help. The benefits of helping others far outweigh the cost you will remember the feeling throughout the entire holiday season!

The event will focus mainly on getting presents for children of different age groups. We have had many people offer to make monetary donations which we highly appreciate, but its Christmas we want these kids to have something special to open for Christmas! This is the first of the Toys for Joys events if we have the success we plan we want to keep this great benefit going for years to come. Please jump in and show a local child the joys of the holiday season!

Community Service No Comments »

If you have a car that you think would give you a good tax write off you may be wondering where to donate your car. You can deduct up to $500 according to the newest tax law. Check with your tax accountant or CPA to see if this has changed if you decide to go ahead. First of all you want to make sure you have a car that can be donated.

There are a few ways to determine that. In general your vehicle must be drivable. If not drivable and just needs minor repairs it may still qualify depending on the car donation charity. The condition of the car makes a lot of difference.

Vehicles that can be donated include, cars, trucks, RVs, boats, motorcycles, ATVs, airplanes, etc. Just about any vehicle can qualify for donation. Charities will need to be able to put your car on their own car sales lot or the car sale lot of a car donation charity broker that they hire.

Once you determine that your car, truck or other vehicle. is in good enough condition to be donatable you’ll want to think about where you can donate it that will be best for you,

There are dozens of car donation programs advertising on the Internet. And of course you’ll find them advertising in your local papers. But the thing to know is that many local and national charities hire car donation brokers to handle their donations. These companies take a big chunk of the profit. You want to be aware of this, because the charity won’t be getting all of the profit, if that’s important to you. You may just be more interested in getting the tax donation deduction.

The best way to avoid the large brokers is to find out what local organizations are accepting car donations. You can watch for advertisements or even call charities you think have these programs. You want to ask them if they handle the sales of your car in-house or if they farm it out to a company that does that for them.

Many charities choose to keep some vehicles to help transport patients, clients or goods. Or they may decide to give a vehicle to a disabled or needy client. If any of this matters to you check this out with the charity as to how they’ll use the car.

Car donation programs include: Target Car Donation Program, Goodwill Industries Car Donation program, Kidney Foundation, Make A Wish Foundation and many, many others. You’ll find a lot of smaller charities too. If you’re not familiar with the charity check with the Better Business Bureau to make sure the charity is credible.

If you have favorite charities call them to see if they accept donations. This would be the way to start. Check online to see where to donate your car and what car donation companies are advertising and check out their websites or call them up to find out how to donate your car including all the qualifications for the car and what you need to know. All of these companies will supply you with the proper forms for donation. You’ll need to get the income tax forms yourself. You should check with your CPA or accountant to make sure you’ll benefit by the donation.

Why Do People And Groups Join In Fundraising Activities

Community Service No Comments »

Fundraising is a method to generate funds for a particular group, person, or cause. There are a number of reasons citizens join in fundraising activities. A lot of citizens need to raise supplementary cash that they can’t provide themselves. The motive that the extra funds are wanted will vary from one reason to the next.

Normally a fundraiser is thrown to meet a certain objective. If a distinct group needs a amount of capital they can try fundraising as a system to acquire the funds. The results of the fundraising activity will depend on how well the group or person was able to promote their need.

Several People And Groups That Rely On Fundraising

One of the mainly frequent sources that conduct fundraising activities is fundraising. These groups rely on capital that others might donate to their cause. There are many charities spread all over the world that are constantly running to produce resources to maintain their causes. Without these essential resources several charities would disappear. There is also a extensive range in requisites of size of the charities that are around today. Some are very large and extremely profitable and most of us will instantly identify their name. Others are much smaller and have to work twice as hard to raise funds.

Oftentimes schools wish rely on fundraising actions to gather the capital that they might necessitate for a specific project. Trips that the students might aspire to take can cost a great deal of funds. If the school does not include this type of trip in their financial plan, holding an event to raise capital is a great way to allow them to still participate in the trip.

Fundraising is an movement that is at least carried out every year by school kids everywhere. It is somewhat that can make a considerable difference for persons involved in it. This distinction might be to assist your school buy needed equipment or to send a kid to camp.

Of all fundraising possible to be conducted, political campaigns can be expected to raise substantial funds. Running a political campaign these days involves buying time on national television, travelling all over the place to get your message out, and paying staff members all require considerable funding. Many politicians have to rely on raising funds if they stand a possibility to success the election.

Churches are also another remarkable space to find fundraising actions taking place. Whether the church needs a new roof or some other type of preservation, they are likely to rely on the help of others to make it happen. Free Easy Fundraisers

Community Service No Comments »

When your youth group needs to raise money quickly, you need a fast free fundraiser that you can rely on to generate the necessary revenue. The amount you make on these free easy fundraisers will depend on how much time you have to prepare and how well you execute your plan.

Here are three time-tested projects to raise some fast cash:

1 - Car Wash
2 - Yard Cleanup
3 - Community Cleanup

Car Wash Fundraiser
Car washes have proven to be great fundraisers in virtually every community. All you need are willing volunteers, a high-traffic location with good visibility, and some attention getting signs. You can put your car wash fundraiser together on short notice.

Here’s what you need to do:

1 - Line up a location with good main road frontage
2 - Ensure it has water access
3 - Assemble supplies list – hoses, buckets, wash towels, dry towels, squeegees
4 - Assign each volunteer an item from the supplies list
5 - Make 8-10 poster board signs in high-contrast colors
6 - Arrange your volunteers in 2-hour shifts
7 - Wash cars for six hours (Saturday preferred)
8 - Have dual lines so you can wash two at once

Your car wash fundraiser’s success will of course depend on the weather. If you can wash 12 cars an hour (one every 10 minutes in each line), you can easily raise more than $500 in one day.

Remember to put together a quick flyer that includes the reason why you’re raising funds and clearly states the price. You can even offer some extra services such as Armor-All tire treatment or interior vacuuming for an additional fee.

Alternatively, you can advertise a free car wash and just ask for donations for your cause. Often, this can raise more cash than stating a specific price, because people will see a group of volunteers working hard and having a good time, and may pay more than you would hav asked.

Keeping safety in mind, be sure to get volunteers to hold and wave signs toward passing traffic, not just volunteers to wash cars. If you have time, advertise your car wash event in the local newspaper, and post signs a day or two in advance.

Yard Cleanup
A yard cleanup fundraiser is extremely fast and easy to put together. Simply create a set of instructions for your group detailing what to offer, what to say, and how much to charge.

Like most fundraisers, the target market is family, friends, and neighbors. Depending on the age of your participants, your offerings can range from simple lawn care all the way up to mulching flower beds or pruning tree limbs. In many climates, autumn is a great time to do this fundraiser, because leaf clearing is always a needed service during those months.

Create a flyer describing your fundraiser and clearly list your prices for the various cleanup options. Assign a fundraising quota to each participant.

Offer some individual and group performance bonuses. There’s nothing like a team pizza party or movie passes to motivate a youth sports group.

Community Cleanup
A community cleanup, also known as a trash bag fundraiser, performs a valuable community service while also providing a significant revenue opportunity. Organizing a community cleanup project is a way to raise funds and send a positive message about your group at the same time.

This type of one day or weekend fundraising event is very similar to the Athlet-A-Thon or Fun-A-Thon concept. Here your group’s participants solicit pledges from the usual suspects - family, friends, and neighbors. Have local businesses donate trash bags and recruit parents and relatives with trucks to haul what you collect.

Pledges are tied to a specific attainment goal such as the number of pounds of trash collected or the number of road miles cleaned of debris. You’ll need to create a one-page overview of your cleanup program and a pledge signup sheet.

It works best if your overview specifies a suggested range for donations, say anywhere from a penny to a dime a pound for a large project. An amazing amount of garbage can be collected from a local stream or illegal dumping area, so it’s not a bad idea to also put a maximum limit on pledge amounts of $20.

Have local businesses donate trash bags. Recruit parents and relatives with trucks to haul what you collect.

Do the math. You’ll be surprised at how much money you can generate. Assuming 50 participants, each of whom has five pledges of a penny a pound, if you collect a ton of garbage, your group will raise $100 per participant or $5,000.

That’s not bad money for a free fundraiser! You’d be surprised at how easy it is to collect a ton of garbage.

Each of these fundraisers is fast, easy to put together, and a reliable revenue generator for your group. As with any youth group event, an adult should be in attendance at all times for safety purposes. Get started on your free easy fundraisers today!
